Masjid
al-Aqsa
A Sirah Perspective
MUFTI ADAM ESMAIL
Discover the deep connection between the Prophet ﷺ and Masjid Al-Aqsa, and learn the practical actions we can take to fulfil our responsibility towards one of the greatest Masjids on earth.
Ask most Muslims about the connection between the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and Masjid al-Aqsa, and the answer will almost be the same:
Al-Isra and al-Mi’raj
The Night Journey from Masjid al-Ḥarām to Masjid al-Aqṣā, followed by the ascension to the heavens, is undoubtedly one of the greatest miracles in the life of the Prophet ﷺ. It was there that he led the Prophets in salah, and it was during that blessed journey that Allah gifted this Ummah the obligation of salah.
But was this the only connection the Messenger of Allah ﷺ had with Masjid al-Aqṣā? Was Masjid al-Aqṣā only the destination of a miraculous Night Journey?
Or was its presence in the life of the Messenger ﷺ far deeper than many of us realise?
When we revisit the Sīrah with these questions in mind, something remarkable begins to unfold.
The connection between the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and Masjid al-Aqṣā did not begin on the night of al-Isrāʾ. Nor did it end there.
From the earliest days of his blessed arrival, through the major events of his life, during his final days, and even beyond his passing, Masjid al-Aqṣā appears repeatedly throughout the Sīrah.
This book is an invitation to rediscover that relationship.

Defining Masjid
al-Aqsa Correctly
The name Masjid al-Aqṣā itself comes directly from the Qur’an. Allah says:
Glory be to the One Who took His servant by night from Masjid al-Ḥarām to Masjid al-Aqṣā, whose surroundings We have blessed, so that We may show him some of Our signs. Indeed, He alone is the All-Hearing, All-Seeing
