Couples Counselling

Every marriage experiences seasons of difficulty. Sometimes those difficulties pass. At other times, they grow into distance, repeated conflict, broken communication or a relationship that feels stuck.

Many couples seek support only after trying everything they know. You don't have to carry that burden alone.

At Zaytoon Advisory, we provide a safe and confidential space where both husband and wife are heard with fairness and respect. Through an Islamically grounded approach, we help couples understand one another more clearly, navigate difficult conversations and work towards the best way forward.

Marriage is a Sign of Allah

Marriage is one of Allah's greatest blessings, but it is also one of life's greatest tests. Every marriage experiences seasons of ease and seasons of difficulty. Left unaddressed, misunderstandings can gradually become distance, resentment and a breakdown in communication.

Seeking support is not a sign that your marriage has failed. It is a recognition that some conversations are difficult to have alone, and that guidance can help restore understanding where communication has become strained.

At Zaytoon Advisory, we provide a space where both husband and wife are heard with fairness. Our role is not to take sides or decide who is right. It is to help you understand one another more clearly, navigate difficult conversations with wisdom and work towards the best way forward in light of your faith and your shared future.

"And among His signs is that He created for you spouses from among yourselves so that you may find tranquillity in them, and He placed between you affection and mercy. Surely in this are signs for people who reflect."

[Surah ar-Rum 30:21]

Our Approach to Marriage Counselling

Every marriage has two sides to the story. Our role is not to decide who is right or wrong, nor to place blame on one spouse over the other.

We begin by listening.

We seek to understand the concerns and perspectives of both husband and wife before helping you have the conversations that have become difficult to have on your own. Where possible, we work towards rebuilding communication and restoring understanding.

Where that is not possible, we help couples navigate difficult decisions with dignity and an approach that remains true to Islamic principles.

Confidentiality Matters

Confidentiality is at the heart of the counselling process. What you share in your sessions remains private, allowing you the space to speak honestly and openly without fear of judgement.

I finally felt understood without feeling judged.

Anonymous

For the first time, I felt able to speak openly about both my faith and my struggles.

Anonymous

Seeking support was one of the best decisions I made.

Anonymous

I wish I had done this years ago.

FAQs

Thinking about counselling?

Here are answers to some of the questions we're most often asked.

Do both of us need to attend?

Yes. Couples counselling is a joint process and is intended for both husband and wife to attend together, either in person or online. Hearing both perspectives allows us to understand the relationship more fully and provide balanced guidance.

What if my spouse is unwilling to attend?

This is more common than many people realise. Marriage counselling can only take place when both husband and wife are willing to participate. If your spouse is hesitant, we encourage you to have an open conversation about seeking support together. Often, taking the first step is the hardest part. If you are a brother seeking support individually, our Individual Counselling service may be more appropriate.

Will you take sides?

No. Our role is not to decide who is right or wrong or to assign blame. We provide a fair and impartial environment where both husband and wife are heard with respect.

What is the aim of couples counselling?

The aim is to help couples communicate more effectively, understand one another more clearly and navigate the challenges they are facing. Where reconciliation is possible, we work towards it. Where difficult decisions need to be made, we help couples approach them with dignity and Islamic principles.

Is everything we discuss confidential?

Yes. Confidentiality is fundamental to our service. Everything discussed during your sessions is treated with the utmost respect and remains confidential, except where there is a legal or safeguarding duty to protect someone from serious harm.

Can we choose between online or in-person sessions?

Yes. Sessions are available both online and in person, allowing you to choose the option that best suits your circumstances.

What issues can couples counselling help with?

We support couples facing a wide range of marital challenges, including communication difficulties, recurring conflict, trust issues, emotional distance, parenting disagreements, family pressures, financial stress and other relationship concerns.

How many sessions will we need?

There is no fixed number. Some couples benefit from only a few sessions, whilst others require longer-term support. We regularly review progress together and recommend what is most appropriate for your circumstances.

What if reconciliation isn't possible?

Every marriage is different. Whilst we always encourage couples to make sincere efforts towards reconciliation where appropriate, not every marriage can or should continue. Where difficult decisions need to be made, we help couples navigate them with wisdom and in accordance with Islamic principles.

Why can't I attend counselling on my own?

Couples counselling is designed to work with the relationship, which means hearing from both husband and wife together. This helps ensure that each person is understood fairly and that guidance is given with the full picture in mind.

Our Individual Counselling service is currently available for brothers. We appreciate that this may not meet every person's needs, but we believe it is important to deliver counselling in a manner that remains consistent with our Islamic principles.

Every Journey Begins with a First Step

Seeking support is never easy, especially when it involves your marriage. Yet many couples tell us that making the decision to reach out was the hardest part.

If you're ready to take that step together, we're here to help you navigate the journey ahead.
